Our Affordable Development Team’s landmark transformation of the iconic Ancoats Dispensary has scooped an award at the Cowgill’s North West Homebuilder Awards which aim to put the spotlight on small-to-medium sized homebuilders.

The flagship project fought of competition from Holywell Manor and the Old School House in Bolton to win Best Conversion Award at the ceremony hosted by Two Pints of Lager and Murder in Paradise actor Ralf Little at Manchester’s New Century Hall.

Helen Spencer our Executive Director of Growth was joined on stage by our outgoing Chief Executive, Matt Harrison, our Director of Development Nick Gornall and other members of the Development Team to accept the award.

Delivered in partnership with Manchester City Council and part funded by Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority the iconic Grade II listed building, built in 1874 to provide healthcare for the city’s growing population has been transformed into 39 new homes for affordable rent.

Completed in early February 2024, the Dispensary includes a mix of 25 one-bed and 14 two-bed apartments and was recently officially opened by Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig at an event earlier this year.

The Award adds to the scheme’s recognition following the recent Best Affordable Housing Development (£10M to £20M) win at this year’s Northern Housing Awards.

Commenting on the North West Homebuilder Awards win, Helen Spencer our Executive Director of Growth, said:

We’re immensely proud of the transformation achieved by our Affordable Development Team of the iconic Ancoats Dispensary. Winning the Best Conversion Award at the Cowgill’s North West Homebuilder Awards is a testament to their dedication and vision.

This landmark project, delivered in collaboration with Manchester City Council, Homes England, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, has breathed new life into the Grade II listed building, providing 39 new affordable homes and is a welcome addition to this thriving and vibrant community. It’s a true honour to be recognised alongside other outstanding developments that have been delivered this year.

This award further solidifies the recognition of what we have achieved at the Dispensary, following our recent success at the Northern Housing Awards. My congratulations go to the entire team!
