Great Places has launched a public consultation on its proposals for an affordable housing development in Beswick.

The proposed scheme of 69 apartments for social rent will be on a vacant site on the corner of Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road. The former brownfield site was previously occupied by the Manchester Bar pub, which was demolished in 2020.

The planned scheme will deliver a mix of one and two-bed apartments. Our proposals include private garden spaces to ground floor apartments, recessed balconies for apartments above ground floor level and high quality landscaping. New pedestrian links will also improve the connectivity to Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road from Newcombe Close.

The proposals have been developed working in close partnership with Manchester City Council, One Manchester, and This City as part of the wider proposals for the Grey Mare Lane estate masterplan.

Members of the local community will be able to view the proposals and provide their views online by visiting https://ourvoice.greatplaces.org.uk/grey-mare-lane-consultation or by contacting GreyMareLane@greatplaces.org.uk by 31 July 2024.

Residents will be able to see the plans and give their views at a public consultation on the Grey Mare Lane Masterplan at The Grange (4 Pilgrim Drive, Beswick, Manchester M11 3TQ) on 15 July from 2:30-6:30pm

Commenting on the launch of the consultation Helen Spencer, our Executive Director of Growth, said:

We’re delighted to launch our public consultation and engage the local community on our plans which will provide a landmark gateway development as part of wider Grey Mare Lane Masterplan area.

The proposed development will provide high-quality, affordable housing in the area and we look forward to hearing the views of the local community and working with our partners to make this vision a reality.
