Great Places along with its partners, Countryside Partnerships, and build to rent specialists Sigma Capital c/o Simple Life Homes, recently hosted a visit from Cllr. Tom Ross the Leader of Trafford Council to view progress at the Millbank Lock development in Partington.

Representatives from Trafford Council joined the partners for a tour of the homes and met with some of our customers who have recently moved into one of our affordable rented properties.

The site, off Lock Lane overlooking the Manchester Ship Canal is being transformed into a development of 449 homes, 117 of which will be affordable, managed by Great Places. As part of the project Countryside is also investing over £1.8m into the local community, including c.£800,000 towards the Carrington relief road.

Commenting on the visit Nick Gornall, Director of Development at Great Places, said:

We’re delighted to have shown Councillor Ross around our new homes at Millbank Lock, a new neighbourhood that will provide 117 affordable homes in an increasingly popular area of Trafford and an ideal spot for first time buyers and families alike to put down their roots and become part of a thriving community. The first phase received a lot of interest, and we expect similar interest with the launch of the second phase.

Building much-needed affordable housing continues to be a key priority in all the areas we operate in, and Countryside shares our commitment to creating great homes across Greater Manchester. Our partnership with Countryside has allowed us to deliver thousands of new affordable homes across the years and at present we have 450 affordable homes in construction on joint sites across Greater Manchester, this highlights the importance and power of a partnership approach. We look forward to bringing more sites forward in this way to enable the delivery of further affordable homes across Greater Manchester.

Tom Ross, Leader, Trafford Council, commented:

It’s partnerships like these that make sure the demand for people wanting to live in our borough can be met. We have ambitious regeneration plans for Partington and we’ve already successfully bid for an £18m redevelopment of the Sports Village. These homes, along with a £1.8m investment in community facilities and infrastructure, are a major part of that regeneration. Above all, we want residents to be happy and healthy, and feel part of the community. Millbank Lock will play a big part in our vision for Partington.
