Great Places service highly commended at Homeless Link’s Excellence Awards

Great Places Housing Group has been highly commended for its Docherty House service in Manchester at Homeless Link’s national Excellence Awards 2023.

Homeless Link is the national membership charity for frontline homelessness organisations in England, and itsannual awards recognise the innovative and impactful work happening across the sector to support people experiencing homelessness in England.

Great Places Housing Group, which works to improve the lives of the people living in its homes, provide a wide-range of services and promote partnership work to create sustainable communities, was highly commended in the Excellence in supported housing category, for its work supporting people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage including alcohol dependency in Manchester.

An eight-strong judging panel with a variety of expertise and perspectives, including lived-experience of homelessness, commended Docherty House for its harm reduction approach, strong client outcomes, and its sense of partnership working with other agencies.

Rick Henderson, Chief Executive of Homeless Link, said:

Docherty House has a hugely positive impact on its local community, supporting people with experience of homelessness and alcohol dependency, with almost one hundred percent tenancy sustainment. Their harm reduction approach is unique and exemplary, and we congratulate them on their significant achievements.

Docherty House is a very unique service that has a harm reduction approach to supporting people who have experienced long term homelessness and multiple disadvantage. The service is supported by lots of amazing partners including Manchester City Council and Change Grow Live to name a few, we also have a fantastic and very dedicated team. Its great to be recognised in these prestigious awards alongside so many other organisations making a huge difference.
