High-rise building safety

A high-rise building is any building with at least seven storeys or 18 metres tall.

Living in a block of apartments does not mean you are at any more risk of experiencing a fire. However, we do need you to consider how a fire in your home could affect not only yourself but others in your building.

It is our responsibility to

  • Ensure the block and your home are safe and meet regulatory standards .
  • Make sure that your escape routes are clear and well lit .
  • Maintain all fire doors in the building including your flat entrance door.
  • Ensure everyone working in the building is competent to do so .
  • Work with local services, such as the fire rescue service to ensure your safety .
  • Inform you about building safety and any measures that are in place to ensure your safety.
  • Engage with you to make sure you feel safe in your home, know how to get in touch with us to raise any concerns or share ideas you may have.

It is your responsibility to

  • Keep safe in your home by following our fire safety advice for all residents.
  • Know your building’s evacuation policy displayed in corridors and stairwells.
  • Keep escape routes in your home clear.
  • Make sure you regularly check the smoke alarm in your home.
