The Great Refresh at Pomona Gardens

Pomona Gardens is one of our supported living schemes over in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, supporting adults who are homeless or are in housing need and require support with developing or maintaining independent living skills. Both men and women can stay at the scheme, and our customers there have a variety of support needs. In addition to the overall aim of securing long-term settled accommodation, the service supports our customers with gaining access to certain benefits, or into education, training or employment, as well as connecting them with their community.

The communal garden is a much-loved space among customers staying at the scheme, as a place to breathe, wind down and socialise when it’s not raining in typical Manchester fashion! However, the space was in need of a sprucing up, which was well timed with a group of NHS volunteers looking to do some work in the community, who recently reached out to us. So, we directed the group over to Pomona Gardens, and they paid us a visit last week to help our team transform the outdoor space.

And it’s safe to say they did a fantastic job! The space was tidied up, making way for some home-spun hanging baskets and even a strawberry patch. Our team also planted some flowers, bringing some colour to the place, as well as materials and solar lights to brighten it up at night. Now, residents can truly make the most out of the space!

Our customers have remarked upon the finished job, telling the team and our helpful volunteers how thankful they are for their work, and how much better the garden looks after the refresh. Our volunteers thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to them.
