Our Affordable Development Team has started work on a flagship development of 160 new affordable homes on Worrall Street in Salford. The site is located close to the Manchester Ship Canal and forms part of the Ordsall Waterfront regeneration corridor which stretches from Salford Quays to Regent Road.

The site’s historic use was as a Dye Works until the 1960s after which it has been used for warehousing most recently occupied by Warton Freight Services. The warehouse buildings on the site are set make way for the new scheme a mix of two and three-bed townhouses and one to three-bedroom apartments available for Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy.

The site, purchased by Great Places from PPG Worrall Street Limited in September 2022, is ideally located with excellent access to local facilities, links to public transport and direct access to the city centre. Designed by Tim Groom Architects, and being delivered by contractors Bridgestone with support from Rider Levitt Bucknall the development was approved by Salford City Council last year.

Commenting on the start of the project, Nick Gornall, our Director of Development, said:

“We’re excited to be commencing on site alongside our construction partner Bridgestone to bring forward the next piece of the regeneration puzzle within the Ordsall Waterfront area. Over the past few years, this area of the city has seen significant change and regeneration. This regeneration work continues on our site, on other sites close by and there are future opportunities yet to come forward.

“The finished article will be a new vibrant neighbourhood and a sustainable community, which we’re proud to be a part of, offering prospective customers the ability to access a variety of affordable home ownership options on our development.”

David Hardman, Preconstruction Director at Bridgestone, added:

“We are looking forward to delivering this exciting new development with Great Places and growing our relationship, whilst also bringing much-needed affordable housing to this area.”

Zoe Rowan, Partner at Rider Levell Bucknall, said:

“This is an amazing project for our North West team to be involved with, providing a single point of contact for Employers Agent, Quantity Surveying, Principle Designer and Party Wall Advisory services. We’re looking forward to seeing this scheme come to life, which will be a great addition to the local area.”
