Stockport’s Housing Lead visits the Poplars in Heaton Mersey

Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing has sung the praises of our new housing development in Heaton Mersey, Stockport.

Stockport Council has taken a strong interest in the progress at The Poplars development from the outset. Cllr Helen Foster-Grime met with members of the project team for a tour of the £24 million flagship development and met residents who have recently moved into their new homes.

Being constructed by Breck Homes, the site is completing in phases and will see a completed development of 106 new homes. The site offers a range of tenures including market sale, shared ownership and social rent, and a mix of two, three, and four-bed houses and apartments.

Members of Stockport Housing Partnership, The Poplars is Great Places’ inaugural development in Stockport following its merger with Equity Housing in 2020, and an important milestone in our commitment to build much-needed affordable new homes across the borough.

Cllr Helen Foster-Grime, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing at Stockport Council said:

This high-quality housing development with over 100 affordable homes on a previously developed site is a huge credit to Great Places and all involved. It was a great honour to meet some lovely families who have just moved in and hear what a difference this will make to their lives and their children. Stockport Council is keen to encourage valued partners like Great Places to work with us across the borough to help meet the unprecedented challenges in housing.

The team are enjoying welcoming new customers to their homes and helping them settle into the new community. Customers have shared their delight at the new homes which is great to hear. There has been a significant demand for all homes, attracted by their quality and the excellent amenities in the area.

Shared ownership demand has been higher, especially from buyers already local and looking to stay in the area, with the family houses proving particularly popular with local families. As we near our final phase of shared ownership release, we look forward to hearing from more prospective buyers and helping them on their journey to home ownership.
