Guests, parents, and teachers were treated to a three-course meal cooked and served by pupils, aged between 9 and 11, from Manor Park Primary School at a recent Pop-Up restaurant event held at the school.

The event organised as part of Great Places project called Raising Aspirations with Manor Park Primary School, which was designed to give pupils real life work experience.

Around 90 pupils took part in the event. Guests, including Great Places’ CEO designate, Charlie Norman who takes over later in the year, were treated to an Italian-themed menu included bruschetta pizza and lemon cheesecake. The children also decorated the hall, chose an opera soundtrack, and made individual place settings for guests.

Commenting on the event, Head Teacher, Simon Cotterill, said:

“Over the last year, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have taken part in a project developed to support children in raising their aspirations and opening their minds to the opportunities available to them in the wider world of work. The programme has helped them develop skills and behaviours which they can use to be successful in the future, and the attributes and positive character traits of successful people.

“This week allowed us to share some of that learning with parents and guests, running two separate pop-up restaurants pupils developed, created, and served a three course Italian meal for over 50 guests. I am proud of all the children for the hard work and dedication that they have put into this project.”

Charlie Norman, added:

“I was absolutely delighted to be invited to the pop-up restaurant, a wonderful addition to the programme of activity commissioned by Great Places which aims at raising the aspirations of young people in Longridge and Shaw Heath..

“The self-confidence of the pupils really shone through, and I was impressed by their attention to detail which really showed how much thought had gone into planning of the event – the food and decorations were wonderful.  It was a true celebration of their achievements with parents and guests – what an honour to attend.”
