Great Places Housing Group hosted The Mayor of Salford on a visit to its flagship development of 160 new homes at Worrall Street in Salford, which is helping to address the need for more affordable housing in the city.

Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, and Cllr Tracy Kelly, Lead Member for Housing at Salford City Council, and local ward councillors joined Great Places’ Chief Executive, Alison Dean, Executive Director of Growth Helen Spencer, Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing at Homes England and members of the project team to view progress on the new development.

The £35 million project on the site of a former Dye Works is located close to the Manchester Ship Canal and forms part of the Ordsall Waterfront regeneration corridor which stretches from Salford Quays to Regent Road.

Delivered in partnership with Bridgestone Construction and part funded by Homes England, Worrall Street is a mix of one, two, three-bed apartments and two and three-bed town houses, available for shared ownership and rent-to-buy, offering a range of affordable housing options to meet the needs of the local community.

The design also incorporates a co-working lounge, a private roof terrace and garden area for use by all residents and secure parking for 16 spaces with electric charging points. In between the two apartment blocks, there will be a landscaped promenade for pedestrian use which will connect Ordsall Lane with Worrall Street.

Set to complete in Spring 2025, the sales and lettings of Worrall Street are being handled by affordable homes specialists Plumlife Homes (part of Great Places Housing Group) with a bespoke brand for the development designed by BBC Interior Design Masters winner, Lynsey Ford who will also be designing the show homes and communal spaces. The development is already in high demand and has attracted lots of interest from potential buyers.

Commenting on the visit to Worrall Street, Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said:

This new residential scheme in Ordsall has a mix of apartments and townhouses to help meet local demands.

As part of our four-year corporate plan we are working with our partners to make better use of council owned land and increase the supply of decent and genuinely affordable housing for local people at sites across the city.

I can’t wait to see this development when it is fully complete in 2025 and welcome the new residents to their new community.

Alison Dean, Chief Executive of Great Places, added:

We’re delighted to have hosted The Salford City Mayor and city councillors at Worrall Street. This project demonstrates our commitment to addressing Salford’s need for more affordable housing.

Our partnership with Bridgestone Construction and support from Homes England has been crucial in delivering this flagship project. By offering customer choice through shared ownership and rent-to-buy on site, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive community where local people want to live.

We are experiencing high demand for the shared ownership homes in advance of sales launch and expect the range of property types will appeal to lots of different people.

Lynsey Ford, winner of BBC Interior Design Masters said:

Creating design with purpose that responds to the unique nature of every space is important to me and this exciting project is giving me the opportunity to do something purposeful and different.

At the heart of our approach is a focus on demonstrating that beautiful design can also be affordable. Me and my team can’t wait to show off how these homes could offer inspiring living spaces on a smaller budget.
