Great Places’ Affordable Development Team is set to build 423 homes thanks to £6.4m it has secured from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s (GMCA) Brownfield Housing Fund.

The funding from the GMCA’s Brownfield Fund looks to support delivery of new homes in the Greater Manchester area by 2025/26 on challenging brownfield sites which prevent the private sector taking them on alone. The funding supports ambitions to prioritise development on brownfield land, particularly for the regeneration of cities and towns, alongside increasing housing supply and wider growth and to help create a more sustainable and affordable housing market.

The £6,478,000 in funding will support creation of affordable homes across 8 Great Places’ sites, which include:

Commenting on the funding agreement Helen Spencer, our Executive Director of Growth, said:

We’re delighted to have been successful in securing £6.4 million from the Brownfield Housing Fund. This investment will enable us to build 423 homes across Greater Manchester making a significant contribution to addressing local housing challenges.

Through unlocking brownfield land we’re not only creating sustainable and affordable housing but also supporting regeneration in these areas.

This initiative underscores our commitment to tackling the housing crisis by providing much-needed quality affordable homes.

Cllr Ged Cooney, GMCA Portfolio Lead for Housing, said:

Through the Brownfield Housing Fund, we are continuing to unlock challenging sites to support the building of affordable housing. It’s great to see progress being made across these eight sites across Greater Manchester, where more than 400 homes will be delivered.
