Great Places Housing Group’s customers are among the thousands of customers set to benefit from government support to upgrade old, inefficient heat networks announced last week (Tuesday 26 September).

The Housing Group’s heat network that serves 299 of its customers in the Richmond Park area of Sheffield, is one of the projects set to receive government support as part of the first round of awards to be made under the £32 million Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES).

The £1.6 million grant will help to partially fund improvements to the efficiency of the Richmond Park network. The project, which has a total cost of £3 million, will seek to address high heat loss issues, bad insulation, and old equipment, which will help to lower bills, improve reliability and reduce breakdowns. The works are due to start later this year with all upgrades completed in 2024.

Commenting on the announcement, Andy Bonnington, Director of Sustainable Assets at Great Places, said:

We’re delighted to have received this funding, which will enable us to upgrade our heat network in Richmond Park and provide better service and value for money for our customers.

The funding is part of the first round of awards to be made under the £32 million HNES. HNES is an important part of the government’s support for heat networks. This also includes the £288 million Green Heat Network Fund, which supports the development of heat network projects that use low carbon heating sources, such as a heat pump, solar or geothermal energy, to provide heat and hot water to connected homes and businesses.
