Great Places and Stockport County Community Trust have provided another successful free half term holiday club at St Mary’s Primary School in Stockport. The provision, open to any child living in a Great Places home or pupil of St Mary’s was attended by 28 children, who each received a free lunch every day.

This is the second time Great Places has commissioned and worked in partnership with Stockport County Community Trust to deliver half term holiday provision at St Mary’s. The need was identified due to a gap in funding for half term holidays. The local authority funds the holiday activities and food programme (HAF), a great initiative but one that only covers the Easter, Summer and Christmas breaks.

The group took part in lots of different activities from making music, and playing musical instruments, with a highlight being taking part in the ground tour of Edgeley Park and playing football on the pitch.

This was an amazing opportunity to go behind the scenes at League two club Stockport County, who only narrowly missed out of promotion to League one this season.

Matt Bailey from Stockport County Community Trust said:

I would like to thank Great Places for funding the free Whitsun holiday for children. For the children attending, the provision is invaluable because they are able to take part in a variety of activities.

One of the highlights of the week was the group taking part in a stadium tour and being able to play football on Edgeley Park pitch. During the school holidays, these opportunities provide a great way for young people to develop friendships, make memories, keep active, and eat a healthy meal in a fun, safe environment.
