Spotlight on Development

Belle Vue, Manchester

Belle Vue was a former greyhound stadium and local leisure attraction in East Manchester.  Over the years, the site has become under-used and close to dereliction, becoming a magnet for anti-social behaviour and crime.

In February 2021, through our partnership with Countryside, we commenced work to bring about transformational change to breathe new life into the area.  Alongside Countryside, who are delivering a large volume of homes for market sale, we will be delivering 130 affordable new homes.  Responding to local needs and demand, the new homes will comprise or one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses for social rent and shared ownership.

The stadium itself is nearly demolished and the proposal is that street names will pay homage to the past with legacy names linking the site back to the fairground, zoo and its former leisure uses.

Cranford, Stockport

In June the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Adrian Nottingham, officially marked the start of construction work at our £24M flagship housing development at the former Cranford Golf Centre in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, which has been vacant since 2014.

The new development will provide 106 new homes, including a mixture of two, three, and four-bedroom affordable houses and apartments for social rent, shared ownership (through Plumlife) and a further five homes for market sale (through Cube Homes).

Following our merger with Equity last year, we have become part of the Stockport Housing Partnership, enabling us to work closely with the Council to bring forward this much-needed affordable housing development, which reinforces our commitment to build new homes across the borough.

The site consists of approximately 2.62 hectares of land that was formerly made up of a vacant golf driving range and the associated buildings in the western part of the site, together with the grassland of the driving range to the east. Developer Breck Homes has carried out remedial work and construction is now under way, with completion scheduled for early 2024.

Shorrock Lane, Blackburn

We are transforming a derelict site close to Blackburn town centre into a much-needed new housing development of 16 two and three-bedroom affordable homes for local families.

The former Laneside Care Home site on Shorrock Lane was empty for more than 10 years.

The £2.8M scheme, partly funded by Homes England, is being delivered in partnership with Tyson Construction.

Shorrock Lane is our first fully modular venture with half of the new homes constructed using a panelised modular construction manufactured by Osco Homes, and the remainder using a fully volumetric modular construction method manufactured by Ilke Homes.

In support of our commitment to delivering social value through our contracts, Shorrock Lane also created employment opportunities and work experience opportunities for local people in partnership with Northern Edge Consultancy Ltd.

Tyson Construction has also contributed £2.5k to Blackburn Council’s Digital Inclusion Project, donated £1k to Hunrraz, a local charity which supports women escaping domestic violence, and provided their professional services free of charge to local community groups.

Horace Street, Bolton

Terra Nova, our in-house construction company, is delivering its first development of 18 age-friendly, one-bedroom cottage-style apartments for affordable rent at Horace Street in Bolton. The timber frame development has replaced the former St Joseph’s Parish Centre.

Working with Bolton Council, we identified a high demand for this type of age-friendly accommodation and the apartments have been carefully designed to enable our future customers to live independently for as long as possible.

The new homes will include wet rooms, intercom systems for upper-floor apartments and wider-than-standard parking spaces. Close attention has been paid to future proofing the new homes, which will feature enhanced specifications, and we have engaged the specialist team at Invisible Creations to utilise their range of age-friendly products, including discreet bathroom adaptions.
